If you drive by The Fish House, you’d never guess that some serious blues goes down in this Latin-style seafood joint, located in a drab strip mall on Miller Drive. But once you get a taste of the outstanding music and food, you’ll be hooked for sure.
Open since 1995, the Fish House has been voted Best Open-Mike Night by the New Times, and is in the running this year again. Its popular Blues Jam night, hosted by Papa Joe every Thursday at 8 p.m., draws in local talent and pros. There is more live music on Friday and Saturday. No cover, but they do require a two drink minimum to sit in the “Backroom.”

If blues music is not your thing, don’t worry. The main dining room, decked out in sea-inspired décor, is cut off from the backroom and you can hardly hear any music at all.
You’ll find some of the best seafood lunch and happy hour specials at the Fish House.

Lunch specials ($7.99 – $11.99) are available Monday – Friday until 4 p.m. Choose from about a dozen items, including Mahi Mahi, Fish Creole, shrimp, calamari, crab cake, and grilled chicken.
The Happy Hour (Monday – Friday, 4-7 p.m.) features a dozen raw oysters for just $5; a free pitcher of domestic beer with the purchase of 20 wings; 2-for-1 domestic draft beers and house wine; $5 frozen margaritas; and more.
The Lobster Bisque ($3.99 – $4.99) is a definite winner, very creamy and savory. Enjoy it with complimentary smoked-fish dip and crackers for a light lunch or dinner. Another great deal is the steamed crawfish plate served with a side for $8.95. The fried calamari is just $7.99.
The Fish House has a market and offers a fresh daily catch, typically priced from $13.99 – $24.99 (always ask before you order). On a recent visit, we tried the Grilled Tilapia ($15.99) topped with grilled onions and green peppers, which comes with two sides. The fish fillet was perfect: seared on the outside, but tender and flaky inside.
We were also impressed with the Shrimp Pasta ($15.99), grilled medium-sized shrimp tossed with linguini and a creamy garlic sauce. Other sauces include marinara, pink and
alfredo.
