Imagine an order of French Toast ($5), made from a freshly-baked baguette, so buttery and sweet off the pan that you don’t need to pour any syrup over it. So good!
That’s the type of mouth-watering food you’ll find at French Café Rendez-vous in Coral Gables, offering authentic French dishes, pastries, wines, products, and novelties.
And here’s the best proof: French natives often stop by for a little taste of home, be it a Cannele ($2, a cross between bread pudding and flan), rich hot chocolate ($2), or boxes of imported goodies.
Independently-owned by a young French couple, the tiny eatery opened last summer on the Miracle Mile strip serving breakfast and lunch daily.
For breakfast, or brunch, try the Brunch Plate ($13) that brings a Quiche Lorraine, salami, two types of cheese, scrambled eggs, and prosciutto. It comes with slices of baguette bread on the side. The quiche is exceptional, and a slice alone will cost you $7.90.
Customers rave about the soup and sandwich combo specials, which include chips and dessert (ice cream, apple sauce or jello) for $6.90. The homemade soup options are split pea, lentil, tomatoes, vegetables, French onion, minestrone, and chicken.
Of course, they also have crepes ($4.50 – $7.90). The dessert version is filled with Nutella chocolate spread, strawberry jam, sugar, honey, and lemon.
French Café Rendez-vous is also a wonderful spot to sit and enjoy the ambiance, oozing with character and charm. There are floor-to-ceiling shelves with imported and handmade items for sale, such as oil and vinegar sets, miniature Eiffel Towers, tin signs, kitchen towels, aprons, cookies, and more.
When you visit, ask about getting on their mailing list to receive invitations for upcoming wine tastings.
