The Last Carrot Should Be Your First Stop for a Healthy Lunch

When a restaurant has been around for decades, you can be pretty sure that it’s doing something right. At The Last Carrot in Coconut Grove, everything is done right.

Nestled in the corner of a tiny strip mall (and we mean tiny), The Last Carrot is frequented primarily by those in the know – anybody else would miss it! Now that you’re also in the loop, go enjoy an inexpensive and healthy lunch in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Miami.

The Last Carrot usually has only one or two people behind the counter preparing the food and serving customers, but they do so surprisingly quickly. Many Grove residents and people who work in the area order take-out and the sit-down counter is usually full.

The menu offers a small variety of fresh items, comprised of salads, wraps or sandwiches, spinach pies, desserts, and fresh juices and smoothies. Items such as tuna, tofu, and turkey can be ordered prepared as a wrap or a pita sandwich. The key feature here is the plethora of fresh ingredients to choose from.

For example, you can order the tuna pita ($7.75) loaded with cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, bean sprouts, carrots, and alfalfa sprouts. All the produce is extremely fresh and tastes amazing stuffed inside a wheat pita complementing The Last Carrot’s scrumptious tuna salad.

The pita comes with two dressings: a chunky, orange-colored herbal dressing and a thick, green-colored vinaigrette. Some people prefer one over the other; while others like mixing both dressings to maximize the taste.

Smoothies are extremely refreshing, such as the 12 oz. strawberry and banana smoothie ($4.00), which tastes much fresher than a commercial smoothie.

The interior is small, but very cozy, with folksy art on the walls, as well as framed posters celebrating the neighborhood’s rich history. Most people sit along the counter, but there are a few small dinettes for two.

Whether engaged in a lively conversation, or quietly reading a book, The Last Carrot encourages diners to do their own thing while filling up on healthy fuel.
