Sonia’s Makes the Iriest (Best) Jamaican Patties in Town!

Memba mi tell yu (Listen up, take note)… for over two decades, Sonia’s Patties has been baking the best gourmet Jamaican patties.

Forget the square little yellow patties under the glowing red-orange heat lamp that look like they’ve been sitting there for days. These are made-to-order and worth the wait.

No wonder they have won four Miami New Times Best Jamaican Patties Awards and been featured on the Food Network’s TV show “Road Tasted.”

Since the late 80s, Sonia has been preparing her secret recipe for light and flaky, now famous patties. Try the traditional favorites: mild beef or the highly recommended spicy beef for the more daring (gets stronger as you eat).

She also makes a Curry Chicken seasoned in a buttery herb sauce and plantain tart. For a limited time, try her lobster in curry or jerk ($6.99). For more filling patties, wrap them in savory coco bread ($1.25) and eat as a sandwich.

Sonia’s patties come individual (starting at $2.50), by the dozen (starting at $24.99) and are available in cocktail size when ordered a day in advance (minimum order three dozen).

They also carry a variety of other Jamaican treats, such as plantain chips ($1.65) and specialty sauces ($3.75).

Jamaican sodas (starting at $1.35) in cream, pineapple, champagne kola, ginger, or coconut water are a must.

For dessert, try the homemade rum cakes ($2.50) in coconut, yellow, or pineapple coconut.

The family-run business is conveniently located across from Miami Dade College’s Kendall Campus, tucked away in the Shoppes of Killian. Loyal customers come from all over the world and take patties home by the boxful.
