I was lucky to spend this Spring Break in Spain, so when Tapas y Tintos opened a second location in Midtown Miami (the original is a South Beach staple), I jumped at the opportunity to indulge in Spanish food.
For those who are not too familiar with Spanish cuisine, tapas are appetizer-sized dishes made with typical Spanish foods, such as ham, cheese and olives.
I’m a huge fan of the Manchego cheese, native to Spain, so my first tapa was the Queso Manchego ($9.50), fresh, thinly cut slices of cheese drizzled with thick, delicious olive oil. I also tried the Ensalada Ibiza, or Ibiza Salad, ($12.95) consisting of medium rare tuna strips with a delicious mango Ibiza style vinaigrette and black pepper. It was sweet, salty and savory, all in one.
No Spanish plate is complete without traditional 100% Spanish Cured Ham, so I made sure to order the “Jamon Jamon” tapa ($10.25) as well. An authentic ham with pieces of fresh-baked bread makes for the perfect combination. Feeling a bit nostalgic after my adventure in Spain, I also ordered a Potaje de Garbanzo (only available as a lunch option with another side tapa for $10). Although the flavor was too bold for my taste, I still enjoyed the hint of spice and combination of chorizo with garbanzo beans.
Tapas y Tintos offers a laid-back experience that resembles the ease with which the Spaniards live. Both locations boast a fully stocked bar, music and DJ. In fact, if you’re looking for a night of good food and entertainment, Tapas y Tintos will lure you in with its Noche Gitana, or Gypsy Night, an evening of unforgettable live music and performances by Flamenco dancers.
The restaurant has received several accolades, including being featured on The Food Network and received an “Excellent” rating from Zagat.
Prices range from $6.95 to $58.95.
