Sweet Sugary Expectations

We’ve all used the term “sugar rush” when we’ve indulged in one too many desserts, but once you visit Miami’s own Sugar Rush food truck you won’t mind the abundance of sweet stuff.

Without guilt, we sampled several menu items, specifically from their cupcake selection that offered a rainbow of possibilities. From classic favorites, such as red velvet, to one-of-a-kind creations like the Oreo Overdose, these cupcakes were flavorful, rich and savory with every bite. The cupcakes ($1.10 each) are small but perfect in size.

Our personal favorite was the Thrilla in Vanilla made with Madagascar bourbon vanilla batter and topped with a vanilla bean butter cream for the perfect combination. The Sugar Rush staff said the cupcakes are the most popular item on the menu. Some other customer favorites include the Guayabera cupcake, made with guava, guava marmalade and topped with cream cheese frosting, and The Elvis cupcake, which is made from banana cake with chocolate chips and topped with peanut butter cream. Delicious!

If you’re really in the mood for a cupcake adventure, opt to get a combination of three flavors (red velvet, vanilla, or chocolate) deep-fried, topped with powdered sugar, and served with a condensed milk dipping sauce ($5). Also good to know is that Sugar Rush changes their menu daily so that every time you stop by for a treat there are new options to explore.

Another dessert that we loved was the original crème brulee ($3.25). Although the truck offers an assortment of non-traditional flavors like chili, our simple choice had the perfect sugar coat and taste. Sugar Rush is also known for its deep fried Oreos ($3), bananas ($4) and brownies ($5).

If you’re in the mood for a sweet breakfast item, Sugar Rush offers dessert waffles ranging from traditional flavors with powdered sugar and maple syrup ($4.50) to Strawberry Nutella with fresh strawberries and whipped cream ($5.50). You can add a scoop of ice cream for $1.50.

There is also a creative selection of milkshakes titled Frozen Treats. You can indulge in the Cake n’ Shake ($5.00), your choice of vanilla or chocolate ice cream blended with milk and red velvet, vanilla, or chocolate cake and topped with whipped cream and sprinkles for the perfect finishing touch. Or, you can try their traditional vanilla or chocolate shakes ($4.50).

If you’ve missed this sweet mobile bakery, you can visit their cozy store where they’ll serve up the same (and even larger variety) of confectionary delights.
