Pioneers are usually those who set the bar quite high for all that follow. The Latin Burger & Taco food truck has been no exception as one of the first to roam the streets of Miami. It has paved the way of gourmet glory for all food trucks as one of the best since its inception. We’d heard really amazing things about the truck that reigns from Food Network Star, Ingrid Hoffmann, but never really had the chance to check it out. So we were delighted to learn that every Wednesday, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., you can find Latin Burger & Taco across from Bayside for a delicious lunch, and we jumped on the opportunity to feel the Latin heat.
We kicked off our burger and taco rendezvous by trying the Machito burger ($5), which is basically a smaller version of The Latin Macho burger ($7). This burger, which is the food truck’s most coveted menu item, is what adds true Latin flavor to this kitchen on wheels. It’s a burger concoction with two patties topped with caramelized onions, cheese, roasted pimento mayo and served on a toasted bun. It was the perfect kick-start burger to our meal. The meat was cooked to perfection and the caramelized onions, accompanied by the melted cheese, were a great finishing touch. While on our burger binge, we went on to eat our favorite menu item, the Pulled Pork “Mini” ($5) a small version of the Pulled Pork Sandwich “Grande” ($7). The burger brings pulled pork, caramelized onions, cheese, roasted pimiento mayo, and it’s served on a toasted bun. The meat felt like the kind that you’d eat at abuela’s house, full of authentic flavor and texture. It was soft and chewy and the caramelized onions, cheese and pimiento mayo really brought the burger together.
Latin Burger & Taco also has a wide array of taco selections all of which are served on an 8” flour tortilla. We chose the Chicken Tomatillo ($4), which has shredded chicken, salsa verde, fresh avocado, lime, cilantro and scallions. Although the taco was flavorsome, and we were big fans of the flour tortilla replacing a typical taco shell, we’d recommend you try this food truck for its burger selection and bypass the tacos on the menu.
The seasoned fries ($4) are really the grand finale of the meal. They’re sprinkled with adobo seasoning and are spicy, peppery and zesty. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself licking the remnants off your fingers.
One of the things we loved most about Latin Burger & Taco was the affordable price. Let’s be honest, a food truck order can sometimes set you back as much as a meal would in a restaurant. So when we learned about Latin Burger & Taco’s special box deals, we were thrilled. For example, you can snag a box with a Machito, a Pulled Pork “mini”, a taco of your choice, an order of delicious fries and a drink of your choice for only $15. The boxes bring diverse options of menu items and are large enough to feed two…and maybe even have some leftovers!
